Updating Printer Drivers Pantum

P, M and BP Series, From a Clean Baseline

Match the exact Pantum model and region, then install print and scan components in the right order.

4 min read Reviewed 10 October 2026 Independent guide

Pantum built its reputation on compact, low-cost monochrome lasers and a growing range of multifunction devices. The software experience is less standardised than the big office brands: regional portals may publish different versions, some models use a single combined installer and others split printing from scanning. Updating printer drivers Pantum devices starts with the exact model number and a clean queue, not with a generic PCL package.

Wireless setup is the other recurring issue. Many Pantum models are configured through a temporary direct Wi-Fi connection or a mobile app before they join the office network. If that initial setup was incomplete, a new driver can appear to install correctly while the printer remains unreachable. Confirm the device has a stable IP address and responds on the network before you reinstall anything.

01 Manufacturer context

Why updating printer drivers Pantum is different

Pantum’s consumer and small-office models typically use a model-specific installer that includes the print driver and, on MFP models, the scan utility. Some devices also accept generic PCL or PostScript drivers, but those may not expose toner status, Wi-Fi configuration or scan profiles. Colour models and higher-volume BM/CM devices can have separate packages. Regional support pages sometimes lag behind the global release, so compare version numbers before assuming you have the newest package.

For a small fleet, document the exact model, firmware and Wi-Fi or Ethernet configuration for each device. Pantum’s driver packages are generally lightweight, but reinstalling without removing the old queue can leave duplicate ports and inconsistent defaults. A fixed IP reservation is especially valuable because the setup utility may rely on discovery rather than a stable hostname.

02 Windows 11 & 10

Updating printer drivers Pantum on Windows

Download the package for the exact P, M, BP or CM model. Remove the previous queue before installing if the port or driver has changed. For USB models, use a direct rear-panel port rather than a hub during installation.

  1. 01

Record the baseline and clear the old queue

Note the exact model code, port, current driver version and any custom defaults. Remove the affected queue and, where relevant, its dedicated port. Restart before installing. This prevents Windows from silently reusing the stale driver.

  2. 02

Download the matching package from Pantum

Select the exact model, Windows version and architecture. Verify the digital signature and release notes. If you need scan, fax, finishing or accounting features, confirm that the package includes those components rather than assuming they are bundled.

  3. 03

Install deliberately, not by automatic discovery

Run the signed installer and add the printer on the intended port. For a network device, use a fixed address or DHCP reservation. If a generic queue already exists, remove it before adding the new one so the driver choice is unambiguous.

  4. 04

Reapply options and test real output

Reselect installed trays, finishers, colour profiles and authentication settings. Print from two applications, test duplex and colour, then reboot and print again. If scanning is part of the workflow, test it separately.

03 macOS 14 and later

Updating printer drivers Pantum on macOS

Pantum’s macOS support varies by model. If a current package is available, install it and add the queue manually. Otherwise, AirPrint may provide basic printing. Verify scanner support separately; not every Pantum MFP exposes scanning through AirPrint.

  1. 01

Remove the existing queue before downloading

Open System Settings → Printers & Scanners and remove the device. This clears stale driver references and prevents macOS from quietly reusing a generic PostScript queue. Note any presets or custom paper sizes first.

  2. 02

Choose AirPrint or the vendor package on purpose

If basic printing is enough, readding the device as an AirPrint queue is the most maintainable path. If you need scanning, specialty media, colour profiles or finishing, install the current Pantum package and select the vendor driver explicitly.

  3. 03

Verify scan support outside the print dialog

Open Image Capture or the manufacturer’s scan utility and confirm the scanner is visible. A print queue can be healthy while scanning is absent. If the scanner is missing, fix discovery or the scan component before changing the print driver again.

  4. 04

Test, then record the working configuration

Print a real document, a colour page and a duplex job where supported. Note the queue protocol, driver version and macOS release. macOS updates occasionally replace a vendor queue with a generic one, so the record is your baseline.

04 Linux & CUPS

Updating printer drivers Pantum on Linux

Selected Pantum models have Linux packages, often distributed as DEB and RPM files. Install the vendor package that matches your distribution and architecture, or try a driverless IPP queue for network models. Check toner and scan support before relying on it in production.

Start with discovery, not a download

Check whether the device advertises IPP Everywhere or AirPrint before installing a vendor package. A driverless queue is often more maintainable, even if it exposes fewer specialty settings.

Validate the queue and the job

After adding or updating the queue, print a real document and check duplex, media size and colour. For label or POS devices, confirm the command language and calibration separately.

Linux support is model-dependent. Where the manufacturer does not publish a current package, a driverless queue or a validated generic PCL/PostScript driver may be the only supported option. Treat unsupported features as unavailable rather than “almost working.”

05 Field notes

Pantum driver traps to avoid

The three patterns below account for a disproportionate share of Pantum driver support cases. They are worth checking before you download another package.

01

Wi-Fi setup must succeed before the driver

A driver cannot repair a printer that never joined the network. Confirm the device has an IP address, responds to ping on the same subnet and appears in the router’s client list. Then install the driver and add the queue using that address.

02

Model prefixes share parts, not packages

P, M, BP and CM families can look similar but differ in scanning, colour and volume. Use the exact model from the label. A generic PCL driver may print but omit the scan utility or consumable status that makes the MFP useful.

03

Regional downloads can be older

Pantum’s regional portals do not always publish the same release at the same time. Compare version and release date across the global and regional pages, and prefer the package that explicitly lists your operating system and model.

06 Coverage

Pantum models and series covered

This guide applies to the Pantum families below. Model suffixes and regional variants matter, so use the label on the device or the configuration page before choosing a package.

The list is illustrative, not exhaustive. A driver page may cover additional models or exclude older regional variants. Always compare the exact model and release notes before installing.

07 Questions

Updating printer drivers Pantum: FAQs

01 Why does my Pantum printer not appear after installing the driver?

The printer may not be on the same network or may have changed IP address. Print a network configuration page, confirm the address and subnet, then add the printer manually using a TCP/IP port. For USB models, reconnect directly to the computer and avoid unpowered hubs during installation.

02 Does Pantum support macOS?

Support varies by model. Some devices have current macOS packages; others work through AirPrint for basic printing. Check the model page before assuming scan or toner status will be available. If no vendor package exists, test AirPrint and document the missing features.

03 Can I use a generic PCL driver with a Pantum MFP?

It may print, but it will not provide Pantum’s scan utility, Wi-Fi configuration or detailed consumable information. Use the model-specific package when those features matter. A generic driver is a temporary workaround, not a complete replacement.
