02 Before you install

How to choose the right driver package

The manufacturer is only the first filter. These three questions prevent most wrong-package installs before they happen.

01

What is the exact model?

A series name is not enough. “OfficeJet Pro 9000” may cover several engines, suffix variants and regional builds. Use the label or the device configuration page, then confirm the model appears in the package’s supported list.

02

What does the workflow need?

Basic printing, scanning, fax, colour profiles, finishing and accounting may be delivered by different components. A smaller print-only driver is better for a server; a full package may be necessary for an all-in-one at a desk.

03

Which layer is actually broken?

Offline status, stuck queues and missing scanners are not interchangeable driver faults. Diagnose the layer first. A clean driver install is a targeted repair, not a universal reset button.

A note on coverage

This directory covers the major home, office, production, label and POS printer brands that account for most driver support questions. It is not a complete index of every badge ever sold. Where a manufacturer licenses or rebrands hardware, the brand guide explains the support transition and the limits of generic drivers.
